Although this pairing won't probably win the "Most Ridiculous/Incongruous" award, I can't help choose my own favorites, as I personally have great admiration for these two characters in this set of episodes. Leomon is probably going to be everyone's pick for reasons like my own, but I can't help mentioning how Leomon sacrifices himself to protect those who could not save themselves. This to me, like Aslan in "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" (bringing that "sacrificial lion" trope back into play), is a representation of the love Jesus showed me by dying on the cross, which then made it possible for me to receive the salvation I could not have obtained otherwise by my own power. Leomon sacrificed himself willingly, knowing what was likely to be the result of this decision, and gave the greatest gift anyone could (which reminded me of a verse in the Bible, John 15:13 - "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends."). That is probably one of the main reasons I cried while watching this scene, and why Leomon is just such a great character overall.
As for Jeri, I hadn't forgotten what she did to save Beelzemon's life, but I don't think I had ever really considered just how hard of a thing it was for her to do. I obviously don't think her reasoning about being a strong enough Tamer or placing blame on herself is valid, and though she didn't necessarily forgive him for what he did, Jeri showed true compassion for Beelzemon (which he would not soon forget). This action perfectly exemplified Leomon's last words about how she has a "lion's heart", as she showed great mercy toward someone who in no way deserved it. This again reminded me of the mercy I have been shown by Christ, that is, how I have not received (and will not receive) the punishment I deserve for my sin because of His love for me. This struck a powerful chord as I tearfully watched this scene unfold.
Sorry, that was kind of long and maybe too serious for this particular thread, but as I have felt this is a safe place to share thoughts and ideas that are important to us, I couldn't help but share what went through my mind as I thought about these two favorite characters of mine. Plus, don't you want these characters to now be your "Most Want to Exist" team after Leomon's death?
